If you want to report the assault and/or have evidence collected
- Do not bathe, use the restroom, changes clothes, drink anything, or eat food in order to preserve evidence
- Call your local rape crisis center and request that SANE(Sexual Assualt Nurse Exam) nurse meet you at the hospital.
- Bring an extra pair of clothes.
- Other things to bring for comfort:
- Face wipes
- Mouth wash
- A favorite snack
- Water
- Chapstick
- Lotion rich tissues
- Headphones and music device
- Things to know:
- They will take all items you have with you as evidence.
- You will be given a series of medications to take in order to protect you from infection.
- You DO NOT have to report an assault in order to collect evidence.
- SA evidence collection is best done AS SOON as possible after the incident.
- You can get hospital bills for SA expunged.
- You can collect evidence up to 72 hours after the incident.
